Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) Foundation/ Allergen Plc Specialized Summer Internship Program Health Outcomes

Internship Details: Allergan Plc, in partnership with the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy Foundation, has sponsored the Allergan Plc Specialized Summer Internship Program in Health Outcomes for two student pharmacists. The program’s goal is to create awareness of career paths in health outcomes and pharmacoeconomics research, which are the foundation for evidence-based decision-making in managed health care systems. In addition, the interns will gain knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, managed health care systems and professional association management.  Two selected student pharmacists will spend nine weeks at the Allergan’s Global Health Economic and Outcomes Research Department in Irvine, CA, under the supervision of pharmacist preceptors and will complete a health outcomes-related project. In addition, interns will spend up to one week at AMCP/Foundation headquarters.  The program will cover housing, travel and other approved expenses. Interns will also receive a modest stipend.  

Requirements: Interns must be enrolled as a full-time Doctor of Pharmacy degree student in an ACPE-accredited school or college of pharmacy during the 2016-2017 school year, with anticipated graduation in 2018 or 2019. They must be eligible for employment in the United States.  Besides an online application, applicants must submit two letters of recommendation and a Letter of Good Academic Standing from their institution.

Internship Details: Pfizer, Inc., in partnership with the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy Foundation, will support the AMCP Foundation/Pfizer, Inc. Managed Care Pharmacy Summer Internship Program. Its goal is to develop future leaders in managed health care through activities that expose interns to population health and the application of managed care pharmacy principles in formulary management, benefit design, medication therapy management and adherence management. Working directly with pharmacists and other members of the health care team, interns will gain an appreciation of how managed care pharmacy principles seek to maximize health care resources and patient care outcomes. Four student pharmacists will be selected for the internship through a nationwide selection process.  During the 10-week program each intern will be assigned to a health plan, pharmacy benefit management company and employer site. This rich experience will round out their introduction to the managed care pharmacy profession and help them develop a plan for their career in pharmacy.  Interns may also spend a day at Pfizer headquarters in New York.  The program will cover housing, travel and other approved expenses. American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Carl F. Emswiller Summer Internship

Internship Details: The APhA Carl Emswiller Summer Internship in Association Management provides one student the opportunity to gain experience at a national pharmacy association for 8-10 weeks.  The internship typically begins in mid- to late-May and ends in mid-July to early-August.  All student pharmacists in their professional years of pharmacy school are eligible to apply. Transportation, housing, and all other costs of living are the responsibility, financially and otherwise of the student. There is a modest stipend involved with the APhA Summer Internship in Association Management.

Requirements: A complete package containing the following materials must be submitted:

  • Letter of intent detailing the student’s specific interest and goals for internship
  • APhA Membership number
  • Preferred start and end dates
  • Current resume or curriculum vitae

American Pharmacists Association (APhA) International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation (IPSF) Student Exchange Program

Internship Details: The Student Exchange Program (SEP) is a mobility program that gives students from all over the world a chance to experience what pharmacy means outside their own borders.

Requirements: There are two ways to get involved in SEP: host a student at your school, or travel to another country. For every two students APhA-ASP chapters host, three APhA-ASP/IPSF members may take part in the SEP in another country. For this reason, we highly encourage the development of a host site at your local chapter!

 

American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Summer Internship

Internship Details: ASHP offers a competitive ten-week training program in national association management. To be eligible to apply, students must be enrolled in a full-time ACPE-accredited doctor of pharmacy program, be in good academic standing, and have an active membership with ASHP. National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Summer Internship program

Internship Details: The program, conducted at NCPA headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, provides a pharmacy student with an excellent opportunity to experience life at a national pharmacy association, while also learning more about the many opportunities that exist in independent community pharmacy practice.  The NCPA Summer Intern will spend 10 weeks at NCPA headquarters, beginning in May or June (start date is flexible) and will receive a stipend. The intern may gain up to 350 externship/internship hours toward licensure, depending upon their state Board of Pharmacy regulations.  The Summer Intern will be located in the Management Institute Department and will become acquainted with and also work with several of the other departments in NCPA such as: Communications, Government Affairs, and Membership Services. A five week and a final week report are required. The intern is expected to complete at least one project in a mutually agreed upon area of interest. The purpose of the summer internship is two-fold:

  1. Provide pharmacy student with an opportunity to become more aware of the vast opportunities that exist in independent community pharmacy practice, and
  2. Provide an experience that demonstrates the importance of a national pharmacy association to the profession.

Requirements: Students must be a member of NCPA and submit an application via NCPA.
